Jeff, please tell us a little about the Leonard & Newland Real Estate office on Main Street in Newcomerstown.

“My partner, Wayne Newland, and I were both employed by other real estate companies for several years, and decided to start our own realty firm, and work for ourselves. Thus, we started the Zanesville office in August of 2017.  After being successful there and growing our team, the Cambridge office also became a reality.  I reside in Cambridge, and am very involved in the community, so this has been a very good location for me.  I serve on Cambridge City Council, as well as being involved in Cambridge Main Street a very active organization that’s purpose is to revitalize, preserve our historic roots, and drive economic development in downtown Cambridge.  

"As time went on, more realtors joined the Leonard and Newland Real Estate Service group, and many were from the Newcomerstown area.  At first, they operated out of the Cambridge or Zanesville office.  Two years ago, we held a meeting with the Newcomerstown bunch.  Dinner was arranged at the Touraine Club one evening, and Wayne and I asked what we could do to enhance the services they offered to their community.  Well, it was unanimous – they all wanted an office in Newcomerstown to function from. We were fortunate to rent a space from Dan Styer, a long-time attorney for many years, and that has worked out very well for us”.

You recently purchased buildings on Main Street – why did you decide to invest in the Village of Newcomerstown?

“Leonard & Newland does invest and manage our own commercial properties, and a short time ago, Dan Styer put several buildings up for sale on Main Street. Our location was included in the listing. Wayne and I have grown to love Newcomerstown. It is a 

great community with much potential. It ended up being an easy decision; we decided to buy and renovate the apartments above the four buildings. We are investing money right now in a new roof for the buildings, and the necessities as far as heating, cooling, electrical and more. In time, the cosmetics part will come to fruition.  We are proud to be a part of Newcomerstown’s Main Street.

"We understand Mayor Pat Cadle, Newcomerstown Council, and the Our Village – Newcomerstown’s Committee are joining forces to write grants and make Main Street much like Cambridge’s. As a part of Main Street, Cambridge, I will be a supporter of this movement. I hope to be able to offer suggestions and ideas. Mayor Cadle has been very supportive in welcoming Leonard & Newland Real Estate Services to Newcomerstown, and we in turn want to give back to this community. I do joke the cheeseburger I had at the Touraine Club a few years ago was the most expensive one I have ever had as I never dreamed Wayne and I would end up purchasing an entire block of buildings, but it has been a great move for us, and we like to think for the entire community. Vacant buildings are filling up on Main Street, we are selling properties, and for this we are grateful to the God, the community, and our customers.”

What would you like to highlight for us?

“Again, I want to mention how pleased Wayne and I are to be property owners in Newcomerstown. We hope to continue to invest in our buildings and be on the forefront of revitalizing downtown Newcomerstown. We have a great seller’s market right now.  Our listings are being sold within 24 to 48 hours. If a decision is not made relatively fast; a house can be snapped up by another buyer.

"This is a great scenario for our realtors, but not so much for the clients we serve. We will be as up front as possible on how soon we think a house will sell, so you have the information needed to make a decision. We also recommend that clients get pre-approved so you know you are good to go with a home loan, and what price range you would like to stay in.
